This item was purchsed for my 8 year old son. He has spent numerous hours completing the sugested projects in the included books as well as worked on designing some on his own. I would definately recommed this item. The projects that can be completed with this set encourage creativity as well as patience and focus. We will be purchasing more items from snap circuits for christmas presents this year.

My 9 yo has had a BLAST with this. He has especially enjoyed creating a circuit that makes a light bulb glow so he can read books under his covers at night. :) His 5 1/2 year old brother has fiddled with it, too, but it's definitely better for 3rd grade and up.

Engaging & Fun Toy
Posted 3/30/2009 by Merrill Milani

We just gave this toy to our son who turned 7. He is having so much fun doing project after project. The diagrams for each project are simple to follow and he loves putting together each project, seeing the results of his work. Although each part is explained at the beginning of the project books I do wish there was a bit more explanation at the project level so the kids could learn more about cause & effect. But the toy has definitely sparked his interest in electronics. And my four year daughter is also taking an interest in this toy and they have been working together on some of the projects too.

At first i was looking for a crane ( hopefully an erector set type) found it at fat brain toys.. it was exactly what i wanted for my six year old.. so bought it.... my wife calls and says hold that order because our neighbor got the same exact toy for my little boys birthday... what are the odds of that..?? so anyway went back and thought i would just get something else.. and the more i looked at their stuff ( fat brain toys.. ) the more i was truly amazed at the really interesting and great quality toys they offered... so got the snap circuit set... its was little intimidating for my six year old at first.. but every night when i get home we have to "build some circuits!" awesome toy .. cant wait to get the 750 piece one day...

My boys love Snap Circuits. It challenges them to think about how the circuits work and they have a great time building different things. I would recommend this toy for curious kids! The only downside is that the switch mechanism isn't very sturdy and broke after quite a bit of usage. We can still make it work though so the boys are still enjoying it.

It could be more complex for a 13 year old. What product would you suggest for "older" kids?
Also the packaging was torn up a bit. Box was fine but for shipping needs sturdier packaging.

Wonderful Toy
Posted 9/10/2009 by Valerie Carlson

Rating:

My 10 year old has had a great time building with this set. It is fairly sturdy, and the diagrams are usually easy for him to follow. Some of the snapping is a little hard for him to do. If he doesn't get them all the way in, they pop back out. But overall, he has had a lot of fun building all sorts of things from a radio to a burglar alarm (way fun for this age group!). I think this is a great precursor to helping him learn how circuits work.

Snap Circuits Review
Posted 9 days ago by Patrick Oliver

Rating:

My son & I have been dismantling electronics to look at circuit boards and we talk about the components. However, those boards are from dead devices, and nothing works. With Snap Circuits, we can actually see how each component performs its function and integrates into a circuit. The actual components are visible on the board. Lots of possibilities, no soldering, what more could you ask for? Your kid could become an electrical engineer, and it all starts here!

I bought this for my nephew for his 7th bday. He had a pokemon party and got plenty of pokeomon presents but this is the gift he played with all night. He was able to do the "builds" on his own without assistance - he said over and over he loved it. When my sister went up the next morning to get him up for school he was already up and building projects :-) So glad I bought this for him.

As soon as I opened the box I loved it. This is a birthday present for my 9-year old niece - she's always looking for strings, boxes, glue, even paper towel cardboard rolls to make projects with and now she can have the real deal - lights, sounds and motors plus an education in electronics to suit her technological leanings. Of course I built the first six or so projects myself to see if it worked and nothing was broken but I have to admit I was just too entranced to do otherwise. A lot of fun for both of us.

Very ingenious toy. Allows kids to quickly put together 300 projects with a relatively few number of parts. Within just a few minutes, my 11 year old was happily putting together her first project. All by herself, following the large, color-coordinated diagrams. The clever design of the toy was not perfectly executed by the manufacturer. A couple of the parts did not snap together so easily. A very few number of the projects did not appear to function, but this is out 300! It is definitely something I would recommend to friends for their kids.

There is nothing better than the excitement of a kid getting his or her first electronics kit. These Snap Circuits kits are accessible and fun. I just gave one to my 7 year old nephew. He immediately started experimenting. With the guidance of his dad, he is designing new circuits based on the existing instructions. The process of creating and debugging new designs is much simpler for the beginner.

Snap Circuits 300 - Same Old Projects As 100

Rating:

My son has had Snap Circuits Jr for a year and did most of the experiments. The snap parts and grid system is safe and lets a child have fun while learning. The booklet is very well written, complete with explanations of the components in simple terms, and explanations of what not to do and why. However, the 300 set will bore a kid who already has the Jr (100) set. My son quickly grew bored with the projects, since the set of additional projects is essentially the same projects from the Junior set. (Note From Fat Brain Toys: The first 100 experiments of Snap Circuits 300 are the same 100 experiments in the Junior Set. 200 experiments are different.)

He very much likes figuring out how things work, so this toy was right up his alley. I was worried about making short circuits and shocks, etc. since I don't know anything about electricity, but so far everything has gone smoothly and they toy seems really safe - especially if you stick with the projects in the book. Our son just turned 7. He has a strong interest in anything related to science. He and his dad did the first few projects. He was so excited when things actually worked. This product seems safe and the snap design makes it easy for a younger child to use. I think at seven, however, it will require adult supervision for my child. He cannot use it independently at this point. All the pieces (there are a lot) fit nicely in the divided box liner. Our only complaint is that this liner is flimsy. Since keeping the many pieces organized is necessary to enjoy this toy, we'd like to see higher quality packaging. Other than that, we are pleased.

I purchased this for my two girls ages 9 and 10 and WOW...It is fantastic! I thought it would require a lot of adult help but my girls started making things before I had a chance to sit down with them. It has very simple instructions and everything just snaps together like it says. It is also color coded so you could literally make something by just looking at the picture diagram. The instruction booklet begins with the simplest projects and progresses to the more complicated. Again, they had no trouble doing any of the projects and soon the whole family was involved. They got so excited after just a few minutes; they could really make something. They just turned on the switch and the first time...it always worked! I would highly recommend this product. This is a great educational toy the whole family can enjoy!

We were very surprised to see such a great book of projects so detailed and easy to follow. Our grandson is 9 and just loves this more adult toy. It is a great parent/child together thing to do. I am also glad we got the 300 set and not the smaller one for a 9 year old.

Excellent Toy for All Ages

I bought this for my 2 year old - and I confess, for myself too. This toy fosters imagination and evokes great deal of interest in children who have a reasonably long attention span and patience. My child is too young to build the circuits herself, but finds the results engaging enough that she keeps asking me to build circuits for her. There are enough visually and/or aurally engaging circuit ideas in the two guide-books enclosed: blinking lights, voice-activated sound-effects, photo-sensitive switches, etc - whose finished effects would appeal to even younger children. Just keep the light-bulbs and the two elongated connecting wires out of very young children's reach.

My 8 year old son and I really like this electronics kit. My son actually asked to turn off the TV so he could play with this! We built the simple light circuits, the fan circuits, the alarm circuits, and even the AM radio circuit (although we can only get one station-I don't know if the capacitor we used doesn't have enough range, or if we just don't have many AM stations nearby that we can pick up). The snap circuits are a bit clumsy, but so much better than trying to wire up a breadboard or having the wires lying around loose. You have to be careful not to lose some of the little pieces, the instructions can be a little confusing at times, but it's an excellent "toy." (Your kids might be having too much fun to realize they're learning something.) We're very satisfied with it.

I bought this for my 9 year old son. He is very mature and doesn't play much with toys like action figures, etc. He likes video games and sports. I got this hoping he would use his brain and tinker around. So far, so good. Me, my husband, and one of our friends were the first to test out the kit. It was simple, yet very cool. Directions are easy. Just last night my son asked if you could make things from this that are not in the book. I told him absolutely and that people discover and invent new things all the time that no one else had ever thought to do. I can see the wheels are already turning in his mind. I highly recommend this product!

I bought this as a birthday gift for my son. Once he opened it, he wouldn't put it down. The only thing that stopped his first day with it was bedtime. In his five hours of building, I heard, "This is cool.
This is awesome. WOW! Look at this. This is way too cool! I wonder what I could build with the bigger sets." He was reading and following directions, constructing, troubleshooting his errors, trying to create new stuff, and having a ball doing it.

This game was a hit with my 7 year old son. He wanted to do all the projects as soon as he got it for his birthday. His 11 year old brother likes to play with it too. They both now try to play together and tackle the hard projects. All in all, it is fun and very electrically educational. I recommend it to anyone with young boys.

Snap Circuits is a snap! We bought it for our son after he saw a similar toy at a friends house. Previous electricity toys required screw drivers or other forms of connecting wires, but Snap Circuits pieces just snap together. The different projects are very engaging and if you or your child take the time to read the paragraph detailing the electricity concepts you are liable to learn something about electricity. (Even if you don't read them you learn a lot.) This toy has engrossed the attention of my son who is usually not captivated by much else.

My grandson has spent many hours assembling new projects, and he has told me of his great sense of accomplishment at assembling the project and then watching for the expected results. The snap circuit package appears to be of well constructed materials, and allows for easy installation and disassembly when finished. As he is 9 years old, he fits the target age group perfectly, and the projects do not appear to be beyond his ability to assemble.

This was the most successful birthday gift ever purchased for my 9 year old boy. He gave me a kiss days later thanking me for this gift. He loves the challenge and the outcome with making something he made from the electronic set. I am amazed by this product because it has taken him away from his hand held video games. This product is better than the Radio Shack comparable toy. A neighbor kid has the Radio Shack version and he thought this product was much better than his.

My son loves the Snap Circuit, but within 24 hours 2 pieces have broken. The on/off switch on one or the parts and the flying piece. They are not careless boys. They are 11 and 13. But they do enjoy it. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: We contacted Tracy and provided information on how to receive the needed replacement parts from the manufacturer, Elenco.)
