Dado Squares and Visual Spatial Learning
Visual Spatial Learning has captured the attention of scientists and educators as being highly valuable in child development. Visual Spatial Play refers to the ability to mentally picture things and is characterized by the ability to appreciate patterns & form in very large or small areas of space. Children with profuse Visual Spatial Intelligence can construct three-dimensional mental images and visual them from multiple perspectives. A keen eye for form, design, color, size, shape and space enables these gifted children to create realistic representations of real world images.
Dado Squares are Simple...Simple Design that Inspires Complex Thought
In Tom West's book, In the Mind's Eye, he suggests that in the 21st Century, strong visual skills will be crucial elements to success: "Ready recognition of larger patterns, intuition, a sense of proportion, imaginative vision, the original and unexpected approach, and the apt connection between apparently unrelated things...". Through Dado's simple shapes and intuitive system of construction, people of all ages find Dado engaging.

These toys are sturdy and fit together easily. Both my 4 and 6 year old really enjoy creating different structures with them.
Great and Not So Great

These are such a great product, but we encountered a problem as soon as we opened them from the box. We accidentally droped one of the squares and it cracked. We were disappointed to be down a square and also the plastic was pretty sharp. But we just tossed the broken square and really enjoy playing with this toy. All three of my young children love it and we're considering another set as we have broken about 3 more squares and can imagine more being snapped. We aren't being horribly careless with this product, but when the squares are being slipped into eachothers' grooves, sometimes they don't connect well and my oldest son tends to force them. I've seen the colored squares and oddly the do feel a little stronger, but it could be an illusion. Also, the fact that these are clear has led to a couple pieces being left out on our hardwood floors and our off-white kitchen floor during clean up time and then a subsequent slip when accidentally stepped on. But this is a really neat toy that is worth losing a few pieces while getting used to taking care of them.

Our granson is a mini-engineer in the making! It's part of his personality and DNA. He LOVES this new item from gramma. We have fun figuring it out (he's only 3). I think he'll enjoy this for several years......always a perk when that happens. NICE 'quiet time' activity while baby sister is napping! While he isn't a child with special needs, I do know from experience that this item would be beneficial to children with fine motor issues, spacial issues and trouble problem solving.
Good supplement to the dado cubes

Rating:
This product, as opposed to the Dado cubes, does not have a from until it is built. This is a good add-on to the dado cubes, or for older children (pre-school up) to play with. It can be frustrating for little ones, who may otherwise find the colors attractive to chew on.
